Colyton enjoys no fewer than three
royal market charters, granted over the centuries by King John,
Edward III and Henry VIII. It was the evocation of Henry’s
Tudor charter that helped local enthusiasts in their campaign to
return the market to its rightful place in the heart of the town.

Zero food miles …
Unique to Colyton Country Market is
the Colyton Produce Stall. The idea behind the stall is to provide
local growers, bakers and preserve makers with an outlet for small
quantities of goods while enabling people to buy truly local food at
very reasonable prices.
Buy crafts direct from the makers …
To complement each food market, there
is a local craft fair in Colyton’s Town Hall. Acting as a showcase
for local artisans and cottage industries, the craft fair is an
inspiring place to find individual gifts and well-made items for the
home.
Buying your groceries can be fun …
Based on the belief that a market is
as much about community as it is about food, each market includes an
entertainment, be it theatre, music, dance or street performers.

A passionate belief …
Local people felt it was time to
restore their market tradition and, in doing so, support their local
economy; encourage a more sustainable shopping culture; celebrate
local food and add to the enjoyment of community life.
A market of substance …
Colyton Country Market is now
established as one of the biggest outdoor local food markets in the
South West. Stallholders from Devon, Dorset, Somerset & Cornwall
offer a top quality range of food, including fresh fish, rare breed
meats, west country cheeses, local fruit & veg, pickles, chutneys &
preserves, juice & cider, pies, sweets and pastries.

Rest your feet and enjoy a cuppa …
Refreshments are available throughout
the morning in The Town Hall and at a variety of local
establishments.
